This outstanding guitar is the first Lomond model from the Munro Signature Series, launched at the London Acoustic Show in 2015.
This guitar has been highly praised for its clarity, note separation and projection – it’s a loud guitar and is only going to get better as it seasons.
As with all the guitars in the signature range, the Lomond features the signature Munro rosette (abalone and wood), ebony bindings and a teardrop-shaped truss rod cover. The bridge pins are solid wood, to match the ebony bridge and fingerboard. Like all guitars in the Munro series, it features a hand cut mother of pearl mountain peak inlayed into the 12th fret.
The fingerboard has been bound with ebony and white purfling and the headstock has an ebony backplate, which is very striking against the metallic tuners and mahogany neck. The Lomond model is the mid-range guitar in my Munro Signature Series, having all the elegance and finery of the entry level Vane but with some luxury features – namely the more deluxe body tonewood and the bound fingerboard.
This guitar is an OM (Orchestra Model) acoustic steel-string, completed in early September 2015. The OM is a popular 14th fret guitar shape for fingerstyle and lead guitar players. The OM was created to have a loud voice in an orchestra setting and my OM does just that. The compact shape has a rich open sound and delivers a very responsive sustained guitar that excels at fingerstyle, lead and rhythm guitar playing.
As you can see from the photos, Cocobolo is an outstanding tonewood visually. It is a dense, stiff tropical hardwood with a bright tone. The trebles on this guitar certainly zing!
