Acoustic steel-string guitar, handmade in Scotland.
Brilliant sustain, incredibly responsive, with wonderful bright tone.
Particularly great guitar for fingerstyle and lead situations.
This guitar is an OM (Orchestra Model) acoustic steel-string, completed in early August 2013. The OM is a popular 14th fret guitar shape for fingerstyle and lead guitar players. The OM was created to have a loud voice in an orchestra setting and my OM does just that. The compact shape has a rich open sound and delivers a very responsive sustained guitar that excels at fingerstyle, lead and rhythm guitar playing.
As you can see from the photos, African Blackwood is an outstanding tonewood visually. In addition, it is has long been recognised by classical guitar builders as the “holy grail” of tonewoods. With a strong responsive taptone that surpasses even Brazilian Rosewood, it can contribute great volume, power and brilliance to a guitar. For more info on African Blackwood, click here There is an article down the bottom of the page explaining the incredible way this wood is harvested (it is more a shrub than a tree, making it very difficult to turn into tonewood). It’s pretty amazing!
This guitar was a great build for me, it came together really well and you can tell from the resulting sound that it’s a real guitar player’s guitar, with a low action and a seriously powerful volume – it’s just dying to be played. The fingerboard has been bound with ebony and white purfling and you’ll also notice the elegant teardrop truss rod cover in matching African Blackwood. The headstock has an ebony backplate, which is very striking against the metallic tuners and mahogany neck. This guitar was built on spec but I added a few deluxe options such as these for my own enjoyment. This is pretty much my dream guitar – simple and elegant with some luxury details – and I plan on including it as one of my signature models in future.
